This is a huge opportunity for an ambitious journalist who wants to help us shape the national conversation.
We’re looking for a writer/editor to take the lead on a new flagship morning email newsletter for Herald Premium, our digital service which brings the best journalism from New Zealand and around the world to more than 102,000 subscribers. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of other email newsletters and products aimed at attracting and engaging subscribers.
An experienced journalist with first-class editorial judgment and a clear, lively writing style, you’ll write and curate an indispensable daily guide to the stories that matter, showcasing the best Herald content and becoming a trusted voice for a large and highly engaged readership.
With a sophisticated grasp of digital media, you’ll be bursting with ideas for growing our Premium readership and have a strong understanding of the potential of email in particular for cultivating audiences. You’ll have a compelling vision for a distinctive new editorial product that will become a must-read for Kiwis who care about news, politics and good writing.

You’ll be an important member of the Herald Premium team, with creative input into a fast-growing and innovative digital service that has provided a vital new source of support for our journalism. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in product and customer teams to deliver on our business priorities.
The position requires a journalist who is comfortable with the daily demands of a busy newsroom, and who possesses a broad range of skills. You’ll be a voracious consumer of news media, with a strong knowledge of current affairs, politics and world news. The job is full-time and will require early starts.
